The department came into existence in the year 2008. The separate science faculty started in the year 2008. Mr. took charge as head of the department in 2008 along with faculty members Mrs. U. D. Chaudhary & Mrs. H. M. Kamdar. Earlier the department had UG course with a single group consist of Chemistry, Botany & Zoology.
At present in our department there are three groups i.e. Chemistry, Botany & Zoology (CBZ); Chemistry, Botany & Microbiology (CBM); Chemistry, Botany & Geology (CBG). In our department there are five teaching staff members and three non-teaching staff members. Dr R S Sakundarwar was retired on 28/02/17 & Dr R N Deshmukh took over charge as head from 01/03/17. All are qualified and experienced.
The faculty members are actively involved in Research, as there are many International and National research papers published by the faculties in Peer reviewed reputed journals with good impact factor, out of which few papers are also included in International Data Base (Scopus).Faculty members also attended and presented research papers in international conferences held abroad during 2010 – 2015. There are five Minor Research Projects sanctioned to the department by UGC, of which four are completed and one is ongoing.
Department runs three Self Finance Certificate Courses i.e., Mushroom Cultivation, Floriculture & Landscaping & Plant Tissue Culture technique to enhance the Scientific skills of the students. Department regularly organizes Intercollegiate seminar Competition, Guest Lectures, Exhibition & Model Competitions, Eco-Friendly activities, Tree Plantation based on significance of plants & forest to mankind. Department of Botany is also involved in up-gradation and maintenance of Soilless Roof top organic farming. Hydroponics, Bottle farming and Bonsai technique are the innovative practices of the department.
Department regularly organizes excursion tour to various localities and nearby forests to enrich the knowledge about the Flora of the region
Chemistry
The department of Chemistry came in existence in 2008 at College, Nagpur and later on shifted to existing building in 2008. It started functioning under the leadership of Dr. C.R.Vekhande. Due to excellent result, infrastructure and well equipped laboratories, our college has been accredited with five star grade by NAAC. The UGC has identified this department under CPE scheme for vertical growth. The department has research output with several publications in National/International Journals. The department has established linkage with several NGOs and National and International organizations.
Since there was a demand from students, Parents and International Organizations, the College introduced PG courses from 2005-06. Under the CPE grants the department has procured sophisticated instruments for UG and PG. the RTM Nagpur university, Nagpur has recognized this department as a centre for research and about eight students are pursuing their Ph.D. The department of chemistry is running UGC sponsored. Six month duration “Certificate course in environmental analysis” from 2006. The department of chemistry has received grants under COSIP in 1984 for glass blowing unit. The teachers in the department are deeply involved in teaching learning and other activities for overall developments of the students.
Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics is in existence eversince the begining of the college. This college which is imparting purely science education started with four Science subjects i.e. Mathematics, Physics, chemistry and Biology in 1967. Initially, the department was headed by renowned mathematician Prof. Nandanwar. The department imparts education in the subject mathematics both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Physics
The Department of Physics was established a way-back in the year 2008. It is the second large department in college with 08 sanctioned teachers. However, presently only 03 faculty members along with the support of 04 Ad-hoc Teachers and 14 Contributory Teachers, are catering the students of Under Graduate (B.Sc. Programme -Semester Pattern) and Post Graduate (M.Sc. Physics – Semester Pattern). In the year 2011-12 the college commenced M.Sc. Physics course while in the year 2014-15 the department was recognized as Research Center to register research students leading to Ph.D. degree affiliated to RTM Nagpur University. The department is running UGC Sponsored (worth Rs 10 Lacs) add-on course under title Career Oriented Course - Mathematical Modeling Using Maple. In the year 2008-09 University Grants Commission, New Delhi bestowed the department with the Innovative Programme (worth Rs 50 Lacs) – Post Graduate Diploma in Nano-Science and Nano Technology which inducts students having completed post-graduation in Physical Science or graduation in Engineering. In the year 2004 the department was identified as a beneficiary department under the University Grants Commission’s most coveted programme College with Potential for Excellence (worth Rs 60 Lacs). The faculty members are active in research and it is recognized by UGC in the form that TWO Major Research Projects and THREE Minor Research Projects (worth Rs 25 Lacs) have been awarded to them and are successfully completed.
Zoology
Zoology department of Om SatyasaiCollege has been there ever since its inception. The department has a big laboratory consisting of all the required utilities to perform practical and research in zoology. The teachers of Zoology department play a vital role in promoting the research work in zoology.
Department has newly constructed and well equipped research laboratory, recognized by R.T.M. Nagpur University. Presently 4 students are working in the laboratory for their Ph.D. work.
